09/17/2006 - Brake Pedals and White Gauges
Also a "GoMo" Update

Finished up the Cobra pedals and mounted them. I just really didn't like the bare aluminum look so I primed/painted them black with the edges in aluminum. Looks better to me at least.

Mounted in the car. That is the best I can get alignment wise with the differences in the pedal. Once the brake switch is in the brake pedal will be up higher and better lined up. Also a clear coat on the pedals hopefully will help it wear better and some blank touch up will be used as needed.

To start with at least I plan on running some white face gauges. The price is right for the quality stick on so I thought I'd give it a try.

Here is the speedo and fuel/temp gauges completed. I sanded the faces, primed and then painted white as suggested. I used the 70 style speedometer this this particular one was from a 70 model.

Here they are mounted in the repainted panel. I primed the back of the panel and re-painted the inside white. I also removed the blue bulb covers since many were melted in this cluster anyhow. I cleaned off the 'seat belt' indicator since it wasn't used and will either label or leave it blank and use it for the 'Check Engine' light from the EFI computer.

If I don't like the white I've kept the original gauges here. You can get a good comparison here as well from the new on the left.

Just a quick snap of the gauges in the standard cluster cover. I plan on purchasing aftermarket 2 1/16" white face gauges for oil pressure and voltmeter and mounting them in the outside pods.

This is what I did in 1978 to get a REAL (mechanical) oil pressure gauge in the car. This is an old Steward Warner gauge that I made fit in the original pod. The engine I ran back then was a tight winding 302 with a 5.43 rear gear so I really wanted the keep tabs on the oil pressure.

Just a goofy piece of history. When I put the oil pressure gauge in as shown above I used a piece of paper to insulate the cluster circuit board to keep it from shorting on anything. I must have done this in 1978 since the receipt is dated January 1978. Hey, give me a break, I was only 19 back then.

Choices, choices...
I actually have a wood grain cluster cover and a standard for the dash (both sides) The wood grain is from a 1970 parts car and there is a difference in the column area. Although I like the wood grain to some degree, I'm still like the standard old black better I guess... for now at least.
