- C&L Pipe/80mm Mass Air - Fan Review - Cleaning Underneath
The C&L 4.6L 96-01 Mustang cold air intake pipe arrived that I
plucked off of ebay. Got a darn good deal on the pipe, 80mm mass air,
K&N filter and cover. Just a bit of adjustment and it looks like it
was made for this car to me. With the motor up 1/2" and a 1"
spacer on the intake it does look like I'll have to do a slight hood brace
mod to make it fit though.
I kept looking at this pipe online and thinking that it HAD to fit
right into the flow needed for a 69/70 Mustang. No way I was going to fork
over the money for new one just to test it, but I ended up getting a good
deal on this used one. You can barely see the standoff bracket I built to
hold up the Mass Air Sensor from here.
I decided to drag out a couple old electric fans I bought years ago
for some future project. I'm getting ready to order a new aluminum
radiator and wanted to make sure how much area these fans would cover.
They are 11 1/2" Delcos that I picked up at a swap meet once upon a
time.
This is NOT the radiator I'll be running but it's close to the same
area so I could test how the fans would fit and how deep they would sit
back in the engine bay. I might build an aluminum shroud out of sheet to
spread out the airflow. Looks like it would be pretty easy. A guy down the
street building a wild inverted trike from a sport bike is getting a break
that I hope to use for a few good bends.
I spent part of a day laying around... under the car... scraping off
crud. Actually it wasn't that bad. I used a scraper for the first round, a
wire brush in a hand drill for round two and then some carb cleaner and an
old towel and ended up with what is shown. Down to the original black
paint. I still have from the rear seat riser to the back to finish in
these pics and around the trans once I pull the mock up back out.
I installed the Mass Air Flow sensor pig tail I got with one of the
mass air meters I bought. Worked out rather nice. I was going to have to
extend the existing mass air wiring to reach the mounting location of the
C&L unit so this will work out great.
The pig tail came complete with the connector. I now will have a
connector and plug making it look near original. I still need to cut off
the original mass air connector and solder up the new one here.
