1/21/2007 - Lower dash work - Wiring integration - Heater Box

Back of Dash Before
Getting close to needing to get the lower dash in to run inside wiring so I needed to clean/paint it. The dash is in excellent shape so a wire brush on a drill was used to remove surface rust. I then cleaned out the small areas better and prepped for paint.

Back of Dash After
The finished back side of the dash. I primed with rust preventing primer and then sprayed my normal gloss gray which is the same as the firewall etc. I remember from way back how I could never see anything under the dash when working there so I like the lighter color. A small light under the dash should make most things visible.

Wiring
I put the connector on to hook the original harness into the EFI harness. This included the Start / Start & Run / Temp sending, Tach, and AC Compress controls. I also wired in the speed sensor in to the connector at the front that will handle the O2 Sensors, speed and neutral signal to the computer. I also ran the fuel pump relay trigger along with the feedback sensor wire from the computer to the trunk area where the relay and inertia switch will be located for the fuel pump(s). Not much to show picture wise for that.

Horn Relay
I also added a relay to drive the horns after hearing this is better than burning up the connections in the steering wheel adapters. The horn unit is on the top and not labeled yet. I re-wired the Fan relay to trigger by the ground side since that is how the thermostat control will work.

I have decided to go back with the original heater and if I add A/C in the future it will be the 'daily' driver' under dash solution from Classic Auto Air. The under dash unit looks pretty good for the 69/70. This also lets me get the heater core in before installing the lower dash. This is the BEFORE picture obviously.

I've ordered a 'seal kit' for the heater box that includes all foam and seals so I started cleaning up the rest of the parts including the blower motor. Since the squirrel cage and backing on the heater box were unpainted steel they have surface rust I have to clean off before painting.
